Cookies

A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser so it can remember something about you, like the fact that you're signed in, or a preference you set. Some of what we describe here is stored using your browser's local storage rather than a cookie proper; we've included it because the privacy question is the same either way.

These are set without asking, because the site cannot function without them:

• Your theme choice (light or dark): stored in your browser, never sent to us.
• Your tracking switch: stored only if you turn tracking off below, so that it stays off.
• An admin sign-in session: only ever set if you are a member of the Elevox team signing into the admin dashboard. Ordinary visitors never receive it.
• Which announcement you have dismissed: so the strip at the top of the site stays closed once you close it, and reappears only when the announcement changes.

None of these follow you to other websites, and none are shared with anyone.

We give links to the people and places that recommend us — a college, an Instagram post, someone who reviews courses. Each one carries a short code on the end, like ?ref=priya-yt. When you follow one, your browser makes a note of that code, so that if you book a seat a week later we can tell who to thank.

The note contains three things: the code from the link, the domain of the site you came from (instagram.com — not the page, and not anything you searched for), and the path of the page you landed on (never the part after the ?, which can contain your own name and email).

It contains no identifier of any kind. No id, no account, no device fingerprint, no IP address. There is nothing in it that could link one visit to another visit, to another device, or to you. Your browser forgets it after 90 days, and clearing this site's data removes it immediately.

We also count how many times each link is followed — one number per link per day, with nothing attached. A marker that lasts until you close the tab stops the same click being counted twice if you reload; it holds the link code and nothing else. In that count, two visits by you and two visits by two strangers are indistinguishable, because there is nothing stored that could tell them apart.

This never leaves elevox.ai. It is not sent to Meta, to Google, or to anyone else.

We keep our own count of which pages get read and where visitors come from, so we know whether the site is doing its job. It runs unless you turn it off below. This is what it is, in full.

What your browser sends us: the path of the page (never the part after the ?), the domain of the site that sent you (not the page), how long the page was open, and an id for the tab that is thrown away when the tab closes. That id is not a login and cannot be used to recognise you tomorrow.

What we add on our side: your state and country, read from a location header our hosting provider attaches; whether the device is a phone, tablet or computer; and one daily number made by scrambling a secret, today's date, your connection's IP address and your browser's make together. That number lets us count how many different people visited today. It cannot be turned back into your IP address, your IP address itself is never written down, and tomorrow you become a different number, so it cannot follow you from one day to the next.

Where it goes: into our own database, on elevox.ai, and nowhere else. Not to Meta, not to Google, not to anyone. It sets no cookie.

We run advertising on Facebook and Instagram, and we want to know which of those ads actually bring people here. To do that we use the Meta pixel, a piece of code from Meta Platforms. It runs by default. On every page, unless you have turned tracking off below, your browser loads that code from Meta and tells Meta:

• which pages on elevox.ai you viewed;
• which programme pages you opened, by name;
• when you click a WhatsApp contact link.

That is the whole list. Nothing about an enrolment, a payment or an amount is sent to the pixel.

Meta may match that activity to your Facebook or Instagram account and use it to show you our ads. We never send them your name, phone number or email address.

Why there is no cookie banner. We used to ask before loading the pixel. We stopped, because a dialog that blocks the page is the more intrusive thing, and because the law in force in India today does not require consent for this. We tell you here instead, plainly, and we give you a switch that turns it off in one click and keeps it off.

We do not sell your browsing behaviour to data brokers. We run one third-party tracker, the Meta pixel described above, and it has an off switch. We do not embed social-network share widgets, comment systems or session-recording tools.

The pages you view are counted as described in "What we count ourselves". That count carries a daily number, not your identity, and it never leaves elevox.ai. The referral note is not an advertising cookie: it never leaves this site, carries no identifier, and cannot follow you anywhere.

Turn tracking off

One click, and it stays off: the Meta pixel will not load and our own count will not record you, on any page, on every later visit from this browser. The same button turns it back on. Turning it off is exactly as easy as leaving it on, which is how it should be.

Your choice is stored in your browser under elevox-tracking. Clearing your browsing data for this site also clears it (and turns tracking back on), but it takes your theme and your admin session with it, which is why the button above exists.

You can also block cookies entirely in your browser settings; see allaboutcookies.org for a browser-by-browser guide. Blocking everything will sign you out of the admin dashboard and reset your theme on each visit, but the public site will still work.
